With his work on color science Johann Wolfgang von Goethe actually believed to present his most important work. His intention to prove Newton wrong failed, because today we know scientifically Goethe was quite wrong. But his approach strongly driven by the human visual perception rather than mathematics and physics makes his color wheel a perfect symbol for the creative work of colorgrading, since it relates specific colors to nouns as “imagination”, “rationality”, “sensuality” and adjectives as “beautiful”, “noble” and “mean”.
And we strongly believe that colorgrading has much more to do with emotions and “imagination” than with technology and science; at least for your part.
But to prevent any technical flaws in the workflow and ensure that we get the optimal picture quality as source material for the colorgrading, we also offer our consulting concerning the choice of camera, recording medium, film scanning or telecine and data management. Not only since the arrival of the Red cameras and Arri’s Alexa we deal with digital cinematography cameras, file formats and codecs.
Especially for “digital” productions we set up a van with a built-in computer workstation that allows data managing, back-up and quality control using special software and full HD monitoring on location, as it was used on set of “AntiChrist” in 2008. This van including a trained operator is available independent or in conjunction with our post production colorgrading services.
